When Kellstorm was sold for $1.47 million at the Tattersalls Sales in 2014, it’s unlikely his connections envisioned him settling at Thunder Ridge Stud in Queensland’s Darling Downs.
A striking chestnut, Kellstorm isn’t just any horse—he’s sired by the legendary Galileo and is a full-brother to Order Of St George, the former Melbourne Cup favourite and Ascot Gold Cup winner.
In other words, Kellstorm belongs to racing royalty—at least by pedigree.
Brought to Australia in 2017 with high expectations, Kellstorm now enjoys a quieter life at Thunder Ridge Stud, where he shares the property with Trevor and Julianne Ives and their flock of sheep. Though his racing career peaked with a third-place finish in The Bart Cummings, one of his part-owners has never given up hope.
Jason Woodbridge, Australia’s “shopping trolley king,” remains optimistic about Kellstorm’s potential. While the Melbourne Cup dream never materialised for him, Woodbridge hopes that Kellstorm could still sire a future Cup contender. After 48 starts under the guidance of trainers Darren Weir, Richard Freedman, Kris Lees, and Symon Wilde, Kellstorm retired from racing with six wins and $273,378 in prize money.
